Fishing and Hunting is being stolen from you in the USA

One Example of  angler taking 33 redfish and the limit is like 2 or 1 per day!

Photo: Redfish limit is two and Jacksonville a angler was caught with 33 little over the limit!

In Central Florida and all over the US and most Recently Poaching of fish and wildlife for the commercial market is taking from the people who respect the law and enjoy the activities of fishing and hunting. If you see it report it and stop as much as you can for the next generation or it will not be available to your children or grand Children.
A lot of use may have in our younger days cheated and doen something we could have been fined for , but the populations and the habitat reduction as well as lack of respect from some people of many ethnic groups and the money that some will pay for fish and certain natural resources. , Wahoo thinks we can make a difference and hope you will
" This is from a report from WFTV in Central Florida !
Fish and wildlife officers said they arrested more than 50 people in a major poaching sting. The suspects were illegally selling deer, turtles, fish and other wildlife.  Fish and Wildlife officers said Central Florida lakes and woods are full of crooked anglers and hunters.
Undercover fish and wildlife officers crisscrossed five Florida counties, including Marion and Volusia, to cut deals with professional poachers.  "It's in the woods. It's in the parking lot of a convenience store. Somebody's yard," Fish and Wildlife officer Capt. Gregg Eason said.
Eason led a task force that spent the last 15 months infiltrating a criminal network that bought and sold  protected species of fish and wildlife on the black market.  Fifty-six arrests have been made so far -- 34 felonies and 280 misdemeanors connected to the illegal buying and selling of fresh and saltwater fish, along with deer, turtles and tortoises, even bear paws in one sting in Florida.
In some cases, an individual catch weighed hundreds of pounds. Officers not only rounded up crooked fishermen and hunters, but also restaurant and convenience store managers who bought from them.
Fish and wildlife can't put a dollar figure on everything that was bought and sold during this sting, but they say the money can be so good that many of these suspects made a living at it. And they're certain there are more where these guys came from.
A few examples of the money involved: Officers say poachers could get up to $100 for a deer, $25 for a gopher tortoise and $2 per pound for bass.
Stop and report it if you see it or even suspect it the good guys can win this and it cost nothing.

Free Shipping on Fishing Rods 'What is it Worth"

FREE SHIPPING ON FISHING RODS:

If you purchase a freshwater or saltwater rod from a online retailer what is it really worth and what should you expect.

  1. There is a cost to the retailer for shipping free but in the case of fishing rods it is really a value for the customer. The reasons are simple most rods are single piece and the length of the rod is usually 6 foot all the way up to 12 foot in the case of the Surf Rods. Casting and spinning rods all have unique challenges depending on the blank size guides and more importantly the tip action. The smaller the tip in the rod the more likely to have issues in shipping.
  2. The Package to ship is consider large or in some cases bulk which can cost the retailer anywhere from 15-35.00 to ship depending on the location. The Rod is always in a Tube that is reinforced and about 1/4 inch think and has a cost of anywhere from $3-5$ depending on the quality and the type.
  3. The preparation and time to prepare for shipping require is not so simple. It is usually required to wrap the tip, guides and handle system with bubble wrap or cushion to keep the rod from bouncing around in the tube and breaking the rod, It is also require to put a cap and cushion on both ends of the tube so that there is no movement of the fishing rod up and down which can cause it to break the tip off the rod.
  4. The carriers like UPS and FedEx do not do as good a job with the handling of rod tubes as they do other types of packages and it is important to make sure the tube is labeled and marked correctly as well.
  5. Lastly if you want express like next day for this type of packaging it is almost always going to cost extra and sometimes considerable to get it fast like another smaller package.

So why this blog well we believe when ever possible that free Shipping on Fishing Rods is a excellent incentive for the customer to purchase a rod and at www.wahootackleandfishing.com we are offering standard shipping on all fishing rods $99 and up, so take advantage of it.

Fish of the Day: Sheepshead a Face only a Mother could Love!

Fish of the Day: Sheepshead a Face only a Mother could Love!

Did you know there is a Sheephead.org but unfortunately it is about a card game that we are not familiar with? However the fish the Sheepshead we do know a little about and they have a face that any angler can love which is where the name comes from and they are pretty tasty table fare as well. So we thought we would share a little bit of info about the beloved sheepshead!
The Sheep head is a fish in the porgy family, common all along s Atlantic coast and Gulf of Mexico coasts. .The Sheepshead has high forehead and a compressed silver body with wide, dark, vertical bands, most distinct in juveniles. The large flat teeth crush and grind crustaceans and hard-shelled mollusks. Adults are typically 2–2.5 ft and can weigh up to 20 lb.
This Species is a fiery fish that like bottom structure and can be found inshore and also offshore in wrecks and reef structure. Most of the fish taken are smaller inshore and the larger adults are little further off but what we would call near shore from the back bays, marshes and smaller inlets. The sheep head will take your bait a lot if you do not pay attention and keep some chum close by so you can keep them in the area you are fishing, We have used cat food before by punching holes in the cans just to keep the sent in the water. You can also use shrimp and other bait fish cuts to do the same thing. The tackle needs to be in the Medium Heavy Action 10-20lb range Mod Fast rod is what we like at Wahoo..  You will want to use a bait cast reel instead of a spinning reel so you can stay in contact with the live bait rig you are using to fish for these crafted fish. May need to add some longer leaders and a 1/0-2/0 bait hook, Sheepshead fishing results will be better with live bait or cut or whole baits, like crab, shrimps, mussels, clams, worms, sand eels, cut strips or squid. Sometimes if you do a great job on the chum the sheepshead will take a small artificial jig but it is rare you will limit on these fish just fishing with artificial.

If you decide you want to go out and target these fish you will have to fish from around Charleston SC south into Florida on the Atlantic side and anywhere for the most part on the gulf coast. Start off to locate sheepshead by looking around markers, pilings, rocks and inlet jetties. The best time of the year to catch sheepshead  is the winter on  slack tides. In the spring the, sheepshead   school up and move into shallow water. In southern Florida, look for inshore reefs, inside inlets, deep channels along mangroves in  the 10,000 Islands or all the coastal bay areas. The Best time is approaching so let’s catch some Sheepshead ! If you would like more information on how to catch Sheepshead send us a email to info@wahootackleandfishing.com and we will be happy to share what we can to help and if you would like to find a captain to catch some of these fun and great fish to eat we can do that to.
