40 lb. leader being used on the surf, your set up maybe different but if you
rig for this going slightly down or up is not a problem depending on the bite.
When you set up your rod and gear we recommend that you add
a shock leader to the line. The shock leader will prevent your line from
breaking when you cast it. Set the long enough that when casting you have 4 or
5 rotations of the leader on your fishing reel. So the leader should be about
2x’s the length of the rod. Finally set up your leader to be 10x the weight of
the lure of weighted bait rig you are using.
Surf rods, surf casting rods, surf spinning rods, all have
their place and the length and action are all a part as well as the casting and
rig you are using. Select a reel that matches with the rod, never make that
